Born one mile away from the busy Manchester Ship Canal and the Bridgewater Canal has provided me with a wonderful opportunity to collect these fascinating postcards. People lived and worked on the canal as the network connected most of the country and beyond to the sea. Close-ups of barges and narrowboats are highly sought after especially ones connected to canal side industry. It’s great that so many abandoned canals in the UK are now open again thanks to the hard work of local people and canal enthusiasts who gave all their hard work for free.
